Julkage (danish christmas bread)

Ingredients

1 cup Milk
1 Egg
2 tablespoons Butter
1 teaspoon Vanilla
¼ cup Sugar
1 teaspoon Salt
½ teaspoon Cinnamon
½ teaspoon Dried lemon peel, or freshly grated to taste
½ teaspoon Ground cardamon
3 cups All-purpose flour
2 teaspoons Rapid or Quick yeast
½ cup Dried fruits (raisins, cherries)
¼ cup Chopped almonds (up to 1/2)
1 EGG beaten with:
2 tablespoons Milk OR cream

Source: HOLIDAY BREADS - Donna German VI Add dried fruits/nuts to the abm pan 5 min. after kneading starts. Remove dough from abm. Divide into 3 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and braid ropes together. Place braid on lightly greased baking pan.

Cover, let rise about 1-½ hours. Brush dough with EGG WASH Bake in preheated 350° oven 25-30 min. Till golden.
