Mom's favorite gingerbread

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
½ cup Shortening
2 tablespoons Sugar
1 Egg
1 cup Black molasses
1 cup Boiling water
cup Flour
1 teaspoon Baking soda
½ teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Ginger
1 teaspoon Cinnamon
Dark brown sugar

Directions

Mix the shortening, sugar and egg together. Blend in the boiling water and molasses. Sift dry ingredients together and stir into the wet mixture. Pour into well greased 9" square pan. Sprinkle with brown sugar. Bake in a preheated 325 degree oven for 45 to 50 minutes.
