Ingredients

2 | pounds | Dried pinto beans |
½ | pounds | Salt meat |
1½ | pounds | Ground beef |
4 | tablespoons | Shortening |
1 | large | Onion; chopped |
1 | can | (no. 2) tomatoes |
¼ | teaspoon | Oregano |
4 | Cloves garlic | |
¼ | teaspoon | Cumin seed |
6 | Soft chili pods -or- | |
3 | teaspoons | Chili powder |
Directions
Soak beans overnight; cook with salt meat which has been diced. Brown ground beef and onions in shortening.
Blend other ingredients in blender and add to meat mixture. Add the meat mixture to the beans and simmer for one hour over low heat.
This is a working man's dish served with rice and jalapeno peppers. Very good with cornbread.
