Ingredients

2 | cups | Sifted all-purpose flour |
½ | teaspoon | Baking powder |
½ | teaspoon | Baking soda |
½ | teaspoon | Salt |
⅔ | cup | Butter or margarine |
1 | cup | Sugar |
1 | Egg -- beaten | |
2 | tablespoons | Milk |
½ | teaspoon | Vanilla |
½ | teaspoon | Lemon extract |
Directions
Sift first four ingredients together. Cream butter and sugar. Blend in egg, milk, and flavorings. Blend in dry ingredients. Chill in refrigerator 2 hours.
Roll ⅛ inch thick on lightly floured board. Cut into desired shapes with floured cooky cutters. Bake on ungreased cooky sheet in moderate oven (375 deg. F) 10 to 12 min.
Makes about 5 doz. cookies.
The illustrations show a row of weirdly pin-headed gingerbread persons in sugar overalls, and a fetching plateful of bells, boots, wreaths, and what might be intended to be reindeer.
