Aunt laura's chocolate cake

Ingredients

3 | Squares chocolate | |
¾ | cup | Boiling water or coffee; or combination |
3 | Eggs; well beaten | |
2¼ | cup | Sugar |
¾ | cup | Butter |
1 | pinch | Salt |
1½ | teaspoon | Vanilla (up to) |
1¾ | cup | Buttermilk |
1½ | teaspoon | Soda |
2¼ | cup | Sifted flour |
1 | Square chocolate; melted |
Directions
Melt 3 squares chocolate in water. Cool. Combine eggs, sugar, salt and butter. Add chocolate mixture, vanilla, buttermilk and soda. Add flour.
Pour into three 8- or 9-inch pans. Bake at 375 about 30 minutes. Cool and ice with Colonnade Icing (see Index). Dribble 1 square chocolate over top and sides.
