Powdered (or fresh) ginger to taste
Hot pepper powder of your choice to taste (the original recipe called for Cayenne; but i've also used Jalapeno)
¼ cup Water or broth for \"sauteing\"; about

How's this one: Cut the eggplant into bite sized pieces. Shake it in a plastic bag with the spices until the eggplant is coated with the spices.

"Saute" in the water or broth until soft (about 10 minutes).
