Gobs (this is a grandmother recipe)

Ingredients

2 | cups | Sugar |
½ | teaspoon | Baking powder |
½ | cup | Shortening |
½ | teaspoon | Salt |
2 | Eggs | |
½ | cup | Cocoa |
1 | teaspoon | Vanilla |
1 | cup | Buttermilk |
4 | cups | Flour |
½ | cup | Boiling water |
2 | teaspoons | Soda |
Directions
Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs and vanilla and beat. Mix dry ingrediants and add to sugar/shortening alternating with the water and buttermilk. Drop on a greased cookie sheet. Bake 5-7 min. at 400-425 degrees. Cool.
Filling: 4 T flour 1 C milk
Cook on med. heat until thick, stirring constantly. Let cool.
1 C Crisco 1¾ C powered sugar ¼ t salt 1 t vanilla Cream and add 1T at a time to the cooled flour/milk mixture. Whip until fluffy. Use this mixture as filling between 2 of the chocolate cookies.
I know this all sounds disgusting, but it really is wonderful. Kids love them, especially this 30 year old kid. My grandmother still makes them for me, individually wraps them and freezes them for my next visit.
