Grandma harting's upside down cake

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
cup Flour
teaspoon Baking powder
¾ teaspoon Salt
¾ cup Sugar
cup Shortening
1 Egg, unbeaten
½ cup Milk
1 teaspoon Vanilla
¼ cup Brown sugar
2 tablespoons Butter, melted
¼ cup Each of chopped apple and peach

Directions

Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Now add the shortening, egg, milk, and vanilla. Beat for 3 minutes with mixer.

Cover bottom of a well greased 8x8x2-inch square pan with ¼ cup brown sugar and 2 tbsp melted butter. Arrange the fruit over the bottom of pan and pour batter over fruit. Bake at 350F for 35-40 minutes. Serve warm or cool.
