¼ | cup | Chopped citron |
¼ | cup | Chopped candied orange peel |
1 | teaspoon | Cinnamon |
½ | teaspoon | Powdered cloves |
1 | teaspoon | Lightly crushed anise seeds |
1 | cup | Strong black coffee or 1 c milk |
4½ | cup | Flour |
1½ | teaspoon | Baking powder |
White sugar Glaze or chocolate icing; or paper cookie stickers |
Directions

Cool and beat in eggs, nuts, fruit and spices. stir in coffee for cookies with dark richer flavor or milk if you prefer milder golden-color cookies. sift flour with baking powder and stir gradually into mixture. Blend thoroughly. (dough can be baked now or you can allow it to age by place for 1 day to 1 week.) Spread dough about ½ inch thick on a lightly buttered and floured baking sheet. Bake in preheated 400 oven for 12 to 15 min., or until a deep golden brown. If you are using the glaze or stickers, add immediately, but cool cookies before covering with icing. Cut into rectangles when cool. Makes about 3 dozen cookies.
