Spiced black bean burgers

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
1 can Black beans (15- to 16-oz.) rinsed, drained
cup Chopped red onion
¼ cup Dry breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons Bottled chunky salsa; plus..
½ cup Bottled chunky salsa
1 teaspoon Ground cumin
½ teaspoon Hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco)
Vegetable oil
2 Whole wheat hamburger buns

Directions

In a medium bowl, mash beans with a fork. Mix in onion, breadcrumbs, 2 tablespoons salsa, cumin, hot pepper sauce, and salt and pepper to taste. Shape bean mixture into two 3- to 4-inch patties.

Prepare barbecue or preheat broiler. Brush barbecue rack with oil.

Cook burgers 3 minutes before turning, then let cook another 3 minutes, or until completely heated through. Lightly toast buns on grill (about 1 minute). Serve burgers on buns, with ¼ cup of salsa on each.
