White sauce (bechamel)

2 | tablespoons | Flour |
1 | cup | Milk |
1 | small | Onion studded with (up to) |
3 | Whole cloves | |
½ | small | Bay leaf |
Grating of nutmeg |
Directions
Melt butter over low heat. Add and blend in flour over low heat for 3 to 5 minutes. Slowly stir in milk. Add onion studded with cloves and bay leaf.
Cook and stir the sauce with a wirw whisk or wooden spoon until thickened and smooth. Place in a 350-degree oven for 20 minutes to slowly cook.
Strain the sauce and season to taste. Add a grating of nutmeg.
