Gary's italian spaghetti

Ingredients

½ pounds Beef, extra lean, ground
½ pounds Italian sausage *
½ Onion, medium, chopped
1 can Diced tomatoes (14oz.)
1 can Tomato sauce (15oz.)
1 can Tomato paste (12oz.)
1 pack Spaghetti sauce mix **
cup Water (1 sauce can full)
½ tablespoon Sugar
¼ teaspoon Oregano
¼ teaspoon Basil
1 Garlic clove, crushed
1 Bay leaf, small
16 ounces Spaghetti

Directions

* Cut into ¾" pieces ** Italian-style with mushrooms Cook Italian sausage over medium-high heat until nicely browned.

Remove sausage from pot, leaving drippings. Cook onions in hot drippings for three minutes; add ground beef. Cook and stir ground beef and onion until meat is brown and onion is tender. Return sausage to pot; drain grease from meat mixture. Stir in remaining ingredients, except spaghetti. Cover; Simmer 1½ hours, stirring occasionally.

Cook spaghetti according to package directions. Serve meat sauce over hot spaghetti; top with parmesan cheese, if desired.
