Gertie carlson's bread and butter pickles

Ingredients

6 quarts Sliced medium cucumbers
6 mediums Onions; sliced
1 cup Pickling salt
quart Vinegar
½ cup Mustard seed
6 cups Sugar
1 tablespoon Celery seed
¼ Cayenne pepper; up to 1/3, up to

Directions

Combine cucumbers, onions, & salt, and let stand for three hours. Drain.

Combine seasonings and vinegar, and bring to a boil. Add cucumbers & onions. Heat to simmering and pack hot. Be careful to avoid boiling, as that makes the pickles soft. Pack hot into clean Ball jars and seal immediately.

Notes - I'm not sure if these need to be processed in a water bath or not.
