Mulled wine - mrs beeton

500 | millilitres | Water |
6 | Cloves | |
1 | 10-gram piece of bruised cinnamon stick | |
1 | pinch | Grated nutmeg |
Finely pared rind of 1/2 lemon | ||
1 | Bottle claret | |
White sugar; (No quantity specified) |
Directions
Put water in pan and haet gently, stir in cloves, cinnamon stick, nutmeg and lemon rind. Heat to boiling point and simmer 10 mins. Strain liquid into basin, add wine, sweeten to taste with sugar. Return to pan and heat without boiling it.
