Ingredients

¾ | cup | Molasses |
½ | cup | Butter |
2 | Eggs; beaten | |
4½ | cup | Flour |
½ | cup | Sugar |
1¼ | teaspoon | Baking soda |
1½ | teaspoon | Cinnamon |
½ | teaspoon | Ground cloves |
½ | teaspoon | Nutmeg |
1 | dash | Pepper |
Powdered sugar |
Directions
Cook and stir the molasses and butter until melted. Cool to room temperature. Stir in beaten eggs. Sift together the flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, ground cloves, nutmeg, and pepper. Add to the molasses, butter, and eggs mixture. Chill in refrigerator for an hour or so. Roll dough in small balls. Bake on greased cookie sheet (350-degrees F. for 15 minutes for small balls, 375-degrees F. for 12 minutes for larger balls). Shake in powdered sugar in paper sack when cool.
