Directions

Cook first 6 ingredients in heavy medium saucepan over low heat, stirr until sugar dissolves. Increase heat and simmer 5 minutes. Add fruit a simmer until fruit is tender, stirring occasionall, about 20 minutes.
Transfer fruit to glass bowl using slotted spoon. Discard star anis. B syrup until reduced to ⅔ cup, returning any juices accumulating in b about 10 minutes. Pour over fruit. Cool to room temp. (Can be prepared days ahead and refrigerated.) Spoon fruit over pound cake, discarding orange, lemon and ginger.
