Pueblo frijoles

Ingredients

2 | cups | Dried Pinto Beans |
5 | cups | Water |
½ | teaspoon | Garlic Powder |
Salt; To Taste | ||
1 | small | Onion |
1 | teaspoon | Brown Sugar |
½ | cup | Salt Pork; Or, 6 Slices Of Bacon, Cut Up |
½ | teaspoon | Cumin |
½ | teaspoon | Oregano |
Directions
Wash beans and soak them in water at least 4 hours or as long as overnight.
Drain water from beans.
Place beans in large pot with remaining ingredients except salt and bring to a boil. Immediately reduce heat and cook over low heat until beans are tender, adding salt only during last 15 minutes of cooking.
If you use a pressure cooker, remove the top at the end of the cooking period and boil rapidly at least 15 minutes.
