Supermom's country-style tea cakes

Ingredients

2 | cups | Sugar |
½ | teaspoon | Vanilla |
2 | Eggs | |
4 | cups | All-purpose flour |
1 | teaspoon | Baking soda |
2 | teaspoons | Cream of tartar |
2 | tablespoons | Buttermilk or sweet; (regular) milk |
Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter and sugar. Add vanilla. Add eggs, one at a time. Beat well. Combine flour, soda and cream of tartar. Add flour mixture, alternating with milk until all dry ingredients and milk are used. Beat well after each addition.
Roll dough out thin (you can practically see through Supermom's cookies).
Cut with a medium-size heart-shaped cutter or in other shapes. Decorate with colored sugar if desired. Bake on ungreased cookie sheets 10 to 12 minutes.
