Ingredients

¼ | cup | Water, lukewarm |
1 | pack | Yeast |
1 | cup | Milk |
¾ | cup | Sugar |
2 | teaspoons | Salt |
¼ | cup | Shortening |
2 | Eggs | |
5 | cups | Flour |
2 | cups | Shortening for fryer |
Directions
Soften yeast in lukewarm water with a pinch of sugar. Heat milk, sugar, salt and shortening until melted. Pour into a bowl until lukewarm, add yeast and eggs, mix well. Add flour and knead. Place in greased bowl and let rise 1½ hrs.
When light, move bowl to a ready place near the stove or deep-fat fryer. Heat fryer 400 degrees. Add second batch of shortening, about 3-4 inches deep. Take a handful of dough. Stretch it out as much as you can between your hands. Drop slowly into hot shortening. Cook 'til brown. Turn over, cook other side till done. Drain on paper towels. Sprinkle sugar on top while still warm.
