Ingredients

4 | cups | Flour |
1½ | teaspoon | Salt |
1 | teaspoon | Baking soda |
2 | teaspoons | Baking powder |
2 | tablespoons | Butter |
1½ | cup | Buttermilk |
1 | cup | Raisins, optional |
Directions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Combine flour, salt, soda, baking powder and sugar. Cut in butter.
Make well in mixture and gradually mix in enough buttermilk to make a soft dough. Add raisins if desired.
Knead dough for several minutes until it is smooth. Form into ball and place on greased and floured baking sheet (smaller size.) Cut a cross through center of loaf. Keep cross shallow.
Bake at 375 degrees F. for 40 to 50 minutes.
