Ingredients

1 | pack | Dry yeast |
½ | cup | Warm water |
1 | cup | Sugar |
1 | teaspoon | Salt |
8 | cups | Flour (up to 9) |
½ | cup | Melted butter |
4 | Eggs; beaten | |
7 | 8 cardamon pods crushed -or- | |
1 | teaspoon | Ground cardamon |
2 | cups | Milk; scalded and cooled to lukewarm |
Directions
Dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir in milk, sugar, salt, cardamon, eggs and 2 cups flour. Beat until smooth and elastic. Add about 3 cups flour and beat well. Beat in melted butter, beating until dough is glossy. Keep adding more flour until stiff dough forms. Knead until smooth. Cover and let rise until double in bulk (about 1 hour). On floured board, divide dough into thirds. Then each of the three pieces into thirds. Braid each making 3 braided loaves. Place on greased cookie sheets and ocver with cloth, letting rise for 20 minutes. Bake in 400 F oven for 25 - 30 minutes.
