5 | Pears; (5 to 6) | |
Melted butter | ||
1 | cup | Whole walnuts |
¼ | cup | Maple syrup; (approximately) |
A selection of cheeses on a cheese board |
Directions
Turn your oven grill on and in a tray suitable to be placed under the grill place your quartered and seeded pears, but do not peel.
Brush with melted butter.
Place the walnuts in one end and slowly drizzle a little maple syrup over the nuts and pear.
Place under grill. The cooking process only takes a few minutes and the fruit and nuts may burn, so stay by the oven.
After 4-5 minutes (depending on the intensity of your oven) the nuts will have coloured.
Remove from the tray and allow to cool. They will appear sticky, but will harden on cooling.
Return the pears to the grill for a few more minutes, no longer. You want your pears to still have some firm texture to accompany the cheese.
Place on the cheese board in clusters.
If you can't access real maple syrup for this recipe you could drizzle a little liquid honey onto the pears and the walnuts. If the honey is quite thick just add a little hot water to the honey and blend through before drizzling.
