Mom bess's date loaf

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
4 cups Sugar
2 cups Milk
1 pounds Chopped dates
Nuts
Butter; size of walnut

Directions

Cook sugar, milk and butter until it forms a soft ball when tested in cold water. Add vanilla and dates. Return to fire and let boil up, being careful not to burn. Add nuts and cool slightly and beat into a creamy mass. Put on a damp cloth and roll into a long roll. Wrap in cloth and let cool. Cut into slices.
