2 mediums Onions, chopped
4 mediums Carrots, cut into 1-inch chunks
cup Barley
32 ounces Vegetarian baked beans
½ teaspoon Salt
¼ teaspoon Black pepper

Cover, reduce the heat to low, and simmer for 3½ to 4 hours, or until the meat is fork-tender.
