Mrs. ahle's molasses cookies
1 Batch
Ingredients
Quantity | Ingredient | |
---|---|---|
½ | cup | Sugar |
½ | cup | Melted shortening |
½ | cup | Molasses |
1 | Egg | |
½ | cup | Boiling water with 1 tsp bkg. soda added |
2 | cups | Flour |
1 | teaspoon | Salt |
1 | teaspoon | Cinnamon |
1 | teaspoon | Cloves |
1 | teaspoon | Nutmeg |
Directions
Mix in order given. The dough will be quite soft for nice spreading cookies or you can add a bit more flour for a slightly firmer dough and a more upstanding cookie. They will still be moist and irresistable. Drop by heaping tsp. or T onto sheet, depending on size of cookie you want. I make nice 4-5 bite size ones...my brother always made enormous cookies. (I don't know if it's ungr. or greased.....I always grease it to be on the safe side) :)
Bake in preheated 350 oven for 10 to 15 min. Cool on racks.
Note: This recipe is originally from the Nova Scotia area and is a beloved recipe that came from a neighbourhood mom in Ontario. I am only sharing it because I can't stand the thought of kids worldwide growing up molasses-cookieless. :)
