¾ cup SHORTENING
1 cup SUGAR
¼ cup MOLASSES
1 each EGG, BEATEN
2 cups FLOUR
2 teaspoons BAKING SODA
½ teaspoon GROUND CLOVES
½ teaspoon GROUND GINGER
1 teaspoon CINNAMON
½ teaspoon SALT

Directions

IN A SAUCEPAN OVER LOW HEAT, MELT SHORTENING. COOL. BEAT IN SUGAR, MOLASSES, AND EGG UNTIL WELL COMBINED. SIFT TOGETHER FLOUR, BAKING SODA, CLOVES, GINGER, CINNAMON AND SALT. ADD TO MOLASSES MIXTURE. MIX WELL AND CHILL. ROLL TO ¼ INCH THICKNESS. CUT WITH YOUR FAVORITE COOKIE CUTTER.

PLACE ON GREASED COOKIE SHEET ABOUT 2 INCHES APART. BAKE AT 375 DEG F. FOR 8 TO 10 MINUTES.
