Quantity | Ingredient | |
---|---|---|
2 | tablespoons | Vegetable oil |
1 | Onion, chopped | |
2 | Cloves garlic, minced | |
2 | Eggs | |
2 | pounds | Lean ground beef |
⅔ | cup | Dry bread crumbs |
1 | teaspoon | Salt |
¼ | teaspoon | Pepper |
24 | Thin slices rye bread | |
24 | Thin slices Cheddar cheese | |
¼ | cup | Olive oil |
Directions
In skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat; cook onion and garlic, stirring, for 3 to 5 minutes or until softened. Let cool.
In bowl, beat eggs; mix in beef, bread crumbs, salt, pepper and onion mixture. Shape into 12 patties, each ½ inch thick.
Cook on greased barbecue grill about 4 inches above medium-hot coals or at medium-high setting for about 5 minutes per side or until no longer pink inside.
Meanwhile, trim crusts from bread. Sandwich each cooked patty between 2 slices of cheese and 2 slices of bread. Brush bread with olive oil and grill sandwiches for 1 to 2 minutes on each side or until cheese just starts to melt. Makes 12 servings. Typed in MMFormat by cjhartlin@...
