1 | cup | Water |
½ | cup | Sugar |
1 | tablespoon | Lemon juice |
4 | Pears OR peaches; OR 1 pineapple, (4 | |

; chunks |
Directions
Place the water in a medium-sized saucepan and bring to a boil. Add the sugar and lemon juice and stir constantly until the sugar is dissolved.
Reduce the heat to low and add your choice of fruit chunks. Cook until the fruit starts to soften and the liquid begins to thicken. Serve warm or chilled with the syrup poured over the fruit.
NOTE: You can give this even more rich flavor by stirring in a teaspoon of vanilla extract after removing the fruit from the heat. You might want to fancy it up by serving it with a sprig of fresh mint or even a cinnamon stick. Be as creative as you'd like - remember, there are no rules! My mom's version usually combined lots of different fruit, including some dried fruit. That's a great way to make it, too - it's more like a compote.
