Ingredients

½ cup Shortening
½ cup Sugar
1 Egg
1 cup Molasses
1 tablespoon Lemon juice
cup All purpose flour, sifted
1 teaspoon Cinnamon
¾ teaspoon Ground cloves
½ teaspoon Ginger
2 teaspoons Baking soda
teaspoon Salt
cup Boiling water
1 cup Tart apples, pared, cored, and finely chopped

Cream shortening and sugar. Beat in egg. Stir in molasses and lemon juice; blend well. Sift together dry indredients; add to creamed mixture. Stir in boiling water; mix well. Add chopped apples; mix.

Chill thoroughly. Drop by teaspoons on greased baking sheets. Bake in 350~ oven for 8 to 10 minutes.
