2 | tablespoons | Sugar |
½ | teaspoon | Cinnamon |
¼ | teaspoon | Nutmeg |
⅛ | teaspoon | Cloves |
½ | cup | Diced; mixed candied fruits |
1 | cup | Coarsely chopped walnuts |

Cream butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg yolk and vanilla.
Sift together flour, salt and soda. Gradually add to butter mixture, blending well. Place dough on ungreased 15½ x 12 inch cookiesheet. Cover with waxed paper and roll into 10 x 12 inch rectangle (about ⅜ inch thick). Remove waxed paper. TOPPING: Add egg white to sugar, spices, candied fruits and walnuts; blend well. Spread topping evenly over cookie dough. Bake at 350 about 20 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool on cookie sheet. Cut into 1 x 2 inch bars. Makes about 48.
