Chocolate spice cake with raisins

Ingredients

1 cup Raisins
cup Boiling water
2⅓ cup Cake flour
teaspoon Baking powder
½ teaspoon Cloves
1 teaspoon Cinnamon
½ teaspoon Nutmeg
½ cup Butter
cup Sugar
4 Eggs
4 ounces Grated sweet chocolate
Milk; see below

Directions

Pour boiling water over the raisins and let soak. Preheat oven to 350. Sift and measure the flour. Resift with the baking powder and spices. Cream room temperature butter until light. Beat in, one at a time, room temperature eggs. Add and cream in the sugar. Stir in the chocolate. Drain and add the raisins, reserving the liquid. Add enough milk to the reserved liquid to bring up to ⅞ cup. Stir the flour mixture into the butter mixture in thirds alternating with the milk mixture. Stir the batter until it's smooth. Pour into a greased loaf pan and bake for an hour. Ice the cake when it has cooled.
