1 | cup | Sugar |
1 | cup | Applesauce |
1 | Egg | |
1 | teaspoon | Vanilla |
2 | cups | Sifted flour |
1 | teaspoon | Soda |
½ | teaspoon | Salt |
½ | teaspoon | Cloves |
1 | teaspoon | EACH cinnamon & nutmeg |
1 | cup | Raisins |
½ | cup | Chopped nuts |
Directions
Cream the shortening and sugar, then mix in the applesauce, egg, & vanilla.
Sift together the dry ingredients and add to wet. Stir in the raisins and nuts. Mix well. Spread in greased 13x9x2" pan. bake 35-45 minutes in 350 degree oven. Frost with a powdered sugar frosting while still warn. cut into bars.
Notes - I would probably grease AND flour the pan, to make them easier to get out. I also used black walnuts this time - Very Tasty! These bars are very solid & rich, and can be cut fairly small.
