⅛ | teaspoon | Cream of tartar |
⅓ | cup | Boiling water |
1 | cup | Sugar |
Few grains salt | ||
½ | teaspoon | Vanilla |
Directions
Combine sugar, salt, cream of tartar, and boiling water. Pour into upper part of double boiler. Place over boiling water. Add unbeaten egg white. Beat with rotary beater about seven minutes, or until icing is thick enough to spread. Add flavoring. If desired, chopped raisins, chopped candied cherries, or pineapple may be added to the icing just before it is spread on the cake. Brown sugar may be substituted for granulated sugar.
