Super cherry apple pie

Ingredients

4 cups Pitted fresh sweet cherries
3 cups Granny Smith apples pared, cored and sliced
¼ cup Granulated sugar
2 tablespoons All purpose flour
1 teaspoon Vanilla
½ teaspoon Ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon Ground ginger
2 eaches Pastry for 9\" pie
2 tablespoons Butter or margarine

Directions

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

Combine cherries and apples in a large bowl. Add sugar, flour, vanilla, cinnamon and ginger; mix well. Place mixture in pastry lines pie plate; dot with butter. Roll and cut remaining pastry into ¾" strips, weave over fruit, lattice fashion, then seal and flute edges.

Bake 25 minutes, then reduce heat to 400 degrees F and bake 20 minutes longer or until fruit is tender and filling begins to bubble. If necessary, cover edges of pie with foil partway through cooking time to prevent over browning.
