Vermont crackles

½ | cup | Margarine or butter |
2 | cups | All-purpose flour |
1 | cup | Sugar |
1 | each | Egg |
3 | tablespoons | Maple syrup or maple-flavored syrup |
1½ | teaspoon | Baking powder |
½ | teaspoon | Ground cinnamon |
¼ | teaspoon | Baking soda |
¼ | teaspoon | Ground mace |

Directions
Beat margarine in large mixing bowl at medium to high speed 30 seconds or till softened. Add half of the flour, sugar, egg, maple syrup, baking powder, cinnamon, soda, and mace. Beat till well combined. Beat or stir in remaining flour. Form dough into 1-inch balls. Roll balls in coarse sugar. Place on greased baking sheets, about 2-½ apart. Bake in a 350 oven for 10 to 12 minutes or till set. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
