Apple toast - sl 11/81

Ingredients

| 2 | larges | Cooking apples; peeled and thinly sliced |
| 2 | tablespoons | ;water |
| 1 | tablespoon | Sugar |
| ¼ | teaspoon | Ground cinnamon |
| ¼ | teaspoon | Ground nutmeg |
| ¼ | cup | Butter; divided |
| 4 | slices | (1\" thick) French bread |
Directions
Combine apples, water, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and 2 tablespoons butter in a saucepan; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 5 minutes or until tender, stirring occasionally.
Melt remaining 2 tablespoons butter in an electric skillet at 350F; place bread in skillet, and cook 4 minutes on each side or until browned. Spoon apple mixture over toast. Serve hot. Yield: 4 servings.
