Braised onion sauce for pasta

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
½ pounds Butter
1 tablespoon Sugar
pounds Onions, peeled, sliced
¼ cup Madeira grated cheese

Directions

Saute onions in butter. Stir in sugar, lower heat and cook very slowly one hour. Stir in the wine, cook briefly, and pour over a pound of freshly cooked pasta. Pass the Parmesan.
