Quantity Ingredient
3 eaches To 3 1/3 cups all purpose flour, divided
3 tablespoons Sugar
2 eaches Env. (8g each) Fleischmann's Quick-Rise
Instant Yeast*
teaspoon Salt
cup Water
1 small Can (160 mL) evaporated milk
cup Shredded old Cheddar Cheese
1 each Egg white, lightly beaten
1 tablespoon Water
Poppy or sesame seed
(optional)

Directions

In large bowl, combine 2 cups (500 mL) of the flour, sugar, undissolved yeast and salt. Heat ⅔ cup (150 mL) water and milk until very warm (120 degrees F to 130 degrees F/50 degrees C to 55 degrees C); stir into dry ingredients. Stir in cheese and enough remaining flour to make soft dough. Knead on lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 6 to 8 min. Cover; let rest on floured surface 10 min. Divide dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into 14-inch (35 cm) rope; fold each rope in half and pinch ends to seal. Twist each rope two or three times. Place on large baking sheet sprayed with Baker's Joy Baking Spray. Cover; let rise in warm, draft-free place until doubled in size, about 20 to 40 min.

Combine egg white and 1 Tbsp. (15 mL) water. Brush dough with egg white mixture. Sprinkle with poppy or sesame seed, if desired. Bake in 400 degree F (200 degree C) oven 10 to 15 min. or until done.

Remove from baking sheet; let cool on wire racks. Makes 1 dozen twists. * One 8 g envelope of yeast=approx. 1 Tbsp (15 mL). Source: Recipes Plus Vol. 7 Entertaining Submitted By SHARON STEVENS On 10-14-95
