Homemade caramel sauce with variations

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
¾ cup Firmly packed brown sugar
¾ cup Sugar
cup Butter or margarine
½ cup Light corn syrup
cup Whipping cream.

Directions

MAKES: 2¼ CUPS

Combine all ingredients except whipping cream in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring, until mixture comes to a full boil. Cool 5 minutes; stir in whipping cream. Serve warm or divide into 3 ¾ cup portions to prepare variations. Variations: Rum-Raisin: While still warm, stir ¼ cup raisins and ¼ tsp rum extract into ¾ cup sauce Banana: Cool sauce completely.
