Mother's port wine sauce

Ingredients

½ | cup | Sugar |
2 | tablespoons | Corn startch |
dash | Salt | |
1 | cup | Boiling water |
1 | Stick cinnamon (opt) | |
½ | cup | Port wine |
1 | tablespoon | Butter |
Juice of 1/2 lemon | ||
2 | Or 3 lemonslices | |
Several dashes nutmeg | ||
Few drops red cake coloring |
Directions
Mix sugar, starch, salt and water. Cook and stir well. When mixture thickens add butter, wine, lemon juice, nutmeg, lemon slices and cinnamon stick. Stir well. This sauce may be served over custards, puddings, or plain cakes.
It is better if you let it set for several hours.
