Peanut blossoms (brown-eyed susans)

Ingredients

cup All-purpose flour
½ cup Sugar
½ cup Firmly packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon Baking soda
½ teaspoon Salt
½ cup Shortening
½ cup Peanut butter
2 tablespoons Milk
1 teaspoon Vanilla
1 each Egg
48 eaches Milk chocolate candy kisses
Sugar, for rolling

Directions

Heat oven to 375F. Combine the flour, sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, salt, shortening, peanut butter, milk, vanilla and egg in a large bowl. Blend with an electric mixer at low speed until a stiff dough forms. Shape into 1-inch balls and roll in additional sugar.

Place 2-inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately top each cookie with a candy kiss, pressing down firmly so the cookie cracks around the edge. Remove from the cookie sheets and cool completely. Makes 4 dozen.
