Southern barbeque sauce

6 | tablespoons | Cider vinegar |

1½ | cup | Ketchup |
2 | tablespoons | Worcestershire sauce |
¼ | teaspoon | Tobasco sauce, or to taste |
1 | teaspoon | Finely chopped garlic |
3 | tablespoons | Peanut,vegetable or corn oil |
Salt to taste, if desired | ||
Freshly ground pepper, to taste | ||
¼ | teaspoon | Dried hot red pepper flakes |
½ | Bay leaf | |
2 | tablespoons | Sugar |
1 | teaspoon | Paprika |
1 | Lemon |
Directions
Combine all ingredients except the lemon in a saucepan. Add the juice of the lemon. Cut the lemon into quarters and add it. Heat thoroughly without boiling. Use the sauce to baste chicken, fish, spareribs, as they are grilled. YIELD: About 2-¾ cups.
