Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
1 pounds Navy (pea) beans
6 Whole cloves
1 medium Onion
6 Slices bacon cut into 1/2 inch pieces
½ cup Unsulphured molasses
¼ cup Firm packed dark brown sugar
1 tablespoon Dry mustard
½ teaspoon Ground ginger
½ teaspoon Salt

Directions

Remove and discard any stones from beans; rinse and drain. In 2 1/ 2 quart casserole, combine beans and 6 cup water. In microwave, cook, covered, on high 16-22 minutes until boiling. Cook on high 2 minutes.

Remove and let stand, covered, 1 hour. Cook, covered, at medium ,50% power, 30-40 minutes until beans are tender, but not soft. Press cloves into onion; add with remaining ingredients to casserole. Cook, covered, on high 30-40 minutes, stirring 4 times, until beans are soft. If desired, remove and discard onion before serving.
