New mexico spoon bread

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
1 can Cream style corn, 16 oz
¾ cup Milk
cup Melted shortening
cup Cornmeal
2 Eggs, slightly beaten
½ teaspoon Soda
1 teaspoon Baking powder
1 teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Sugar (optional)
cup Grated cheddar cheese
4 ounces Can diced green chiles

Directions

Mix all ingredients. Pour the batter into a greased cast iron skillet. Bake at 400 degrees F in oven for 45 minutes; cool slightly, slice like a pie, and serve.
