Simply delicious brown bread (no yeast)

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
14 ounces Stone ground wholemeal flour
2 ounces White
1 tablespoon Bran and wheatgerm
1 teaspoon (level) of bread soda (sifted)
1 teaspoon Salt
2 teaspoons Soft brown sugar
1 Egg
1 tablespoon Oil
14 fluid ounce Buttermilk or sour milk

Directions

Mix all dry ingredients. Make a well, drop in the egg and oil, and put a drop of milk to bash together and then add the rest of the milk.

The mixture should be soft and slightly sloppy, place in an oiled tin and bake for 60 mins, or until knife comes out clean and when you tap the bottom, the loaf sounds hollow (or if you have made 2 smaller loaves, less time), gas 6.
