6 | eaches | Pita breads, about 6 inches in diameter |
¼ | cup | Butter or margaine |
¼ | cup | Olive oil |
1 | each | Clove garlic, finely choppped |
½ | teaspoon | Dried savory or thyme leaves, crumbled |
⅓ | cup | Grated parmesan cheese |
Directions
Preheat the oven to 425F. Using a sharp knife cut each pita bread into quarters, cut through the middle and split each quarter into two, for a total of 48 pieces. Lay the pieces cut side up on an ungreased baking sheet. In a small saucepan, heat ubtter and oil over moderate heat. Add garlic and savory, saute for 15 seconds.
Remove the butter mixture form the heat. Brush the mixture over the cut side of the pita pieces. Sprinkle grated cheese evenly over the pita pieces. Bake the pita until the pieces are crisp and lightly browned, about 10 minutes. Transfer the chips to a rack and let them cool, and serve.
