Scalloped cabbage

Ingredients

5 | tablespoons | Butter, softened |
3 | tablespoons | Flour, all-purpose |
2 | cups | Milk |
¼ | cup | Ham, diced |
4 | slices | Bacon, crisp, crumbled |
¼ | cup | Green bell pepper, chopped |
1 | cup | Saltine cracker crumbs |
Directions
Preheat oven to 375 degF. Wash and core the cabbage. Cut into ½ inch slices. Steam for 5 to 7 minutes, or until tender. Drain well, then place in a casserole dish. Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan. Add the flour and stir for two minutes. Add the milk all at once and blend quickly with a whisk. Cook over medium heat for 3 to 4 minutes until sauce is smooth. Remove from heat. In a small bowl, mix together the ham, bacon, remaining two tablespoons of butter and green pepper. Spread evenly over the cabbage in the casserole dish.
Sprinkle in the cracker crumbs and top with the white sauce. Bake uncovered for 25 minutes or until light brown and bubbly. Serve at once. Submitted By GRANT AMES On 03-09-95
